Useful Information

Qualifications

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and as such abide by their Ethical Framework. (Please see www.bacp.co.uk/ethical-framework for more information).

Anti-discriminatory practice: I am committed to providing an anti-discriminatory service. I strive to ensure that this practice is present in all our work together.

The way that I work:

There are many approaches to the way practitioners work with their clients. I have been trained in a therapeutic approach called humanistic counselling. This method of therapy focuses on the whole person, and I work holistically, taking into account a person’s unique experiences, subjective feelings, and potential for growth. My approach emphasises the free will and personal responsibility of my client, alongside their capacity to make informed choices and direct their own lives.

Please see www.bacp.co.uk/about-therapy/types-of-therapy for more information on different therapeutic approaches.

Fees:

I charge a fee of £60 per 50 minute session.

Reduced fee rate:

I have a limited number of low cost sessions for clients who are claiming benefits or students. Please note that this must be agreed prior to our first session, and I require proof from you such as a student union card or letter, or email from the Department for Work and Pensions, in order for me to offer this service. I review my fees on an annual basis in July, and will give you 3 months’ calendar months’ notice of any proposed increase.

Emergency and Crisis Situations

Emergency and Crisis Situations
Please note that I do not offer an emergency or crisis service. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, including serious self-harm or thoughts of suicide, it is vital that you seek immediate help outside of our sessions.

I will support you, during our assessment session, in identifying and accessing the most appropriate sources of help should a crisis situation arise between sessions. These could include:

Your GP

Your nearest Accident & Emergency department (A&E)

The Samaritans – available 24/7 on 116 123
You can also email: jo@samaritans.org

If you are in a major crisis, please do not wait for your next appointment—getting immediate support is essential.

Our work together will be governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes relating to our agreement shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the English Courts.

All counselling sessions must take place within Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Counselling cannot be provided while you are outside these regions
